President Trump appeared with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell at the White House. He told reporters the Trump administration is set to make a "big announcement" next week regarding the opioid crisis.

Per IJR:

“This country, and frankly the world, has a drug problem,” Trump declared before saying he was going to do “something” about opioid crisis.

“We're going to have a major announcement — probably next week — on the drug crisis and on the opioid massive problem,” Trump said. “I want to get that absolutely right.”

Trump's comments came the day after a “60 Minutes” report that emphasized the scope of the nation's opioid epidemic and implicated drug companies in the epidemic's impacts.

This is something President Trump addressed on the campaign trail. It looks like his administration is set to take action and get a handle on this crisis.

Lawmakers reacted to the 60 Minutes report. Here is West Virginia Democrat, among others, giving their response to the failed bill. It is pretty unanimous that it is time to get this law repealed.

There appears to be a bipartisan feel that opioid is a national crisis that needs to be address and it needs to happen immediately.

There are some who still back the law including Utah Senator Orrin Hatch (R) who happened to receive $177,000 in donations from the drug industry while he was helping to push the law through.

While Trump did defend Tom Marino (R-PA) and labeled him a "great guy" he did indicate that 60 Minutes has prompted him to take a closer look into Marino's actions.
