Stevie Nicks expressed that without her fellow Fleetwood Mac member Christine McVie, the idea of the band touring again seems unlikely.

"When Christine died, I felt like you can’t replace her," shared Nicks in a conversation with Vulture on Monday. "You just can’t. Without her, what is it? You know what I mean? She was like my soul mate, my musical soul mate, and my closest companion. I spent more moments with her than with any of my close friends outside of Fleetwood Mac. Christine was my best friend."

The iconic singer compared her feelings of loss to the sentiment in Taylor Swift’s song "You’re on Your Own, Kid."

"It was like, that was Christine and I," she continued. "We were on our own in that band. We always were. We protected each other. Who am I going to look over to on the right and have them not be there behind that Hammond organ? When she died, I figured we really can’t go any further with this. There’s no reason to."

Last November, McVie passed away from a stroke at the age of 79.

Fleetwood Mac was established in 1967 by guitarists Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, and Mick Fleetwood. After tying the knot with member John McVie, Christine McVie became an official member in 1970. By 1975, Nicks had been introduced as the band's lead singer.

Nicks decided to step away in 1990 to focus on her solo aspirations. However, in 1993, the band reunited to play "Don't Stop," a song penned by McVie, for President Clinton's inaugural celebration.

Following a period of quasi-retirement, McVie made her way back to the band in 2014. That year, Fleetwood Mac set out on a global tour which featured both Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. Notably, Buckingham had become a member of the band alongside Nicks in 1975. In 2017, a collaboration between McVie and Buckingham resulted in the "Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie" album, reaching No. 17 on the Billboard 200 chart. This album marked her final recording prior to her passing.
