According to a report from the Washington Post, the employees have until 5 p.m. eastern time Thursday to sign up for work with the reformed social media company.

Musk said he will need an intense commitment from the employees to "Twitter 2.0" according to an employee email obtained from the Post.

“Going forward, to build a breakthrough Twitter 2.0 and succeed in an increasingly competitive world, we will need to be extremely hardcore. This will mean working long hours at high intensity. Only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade,” Musk said in the email, according to the Guardian.

Musk completed a $44 billion deal in October to acquire Twitter. Since then he has worked swiftly to make changes to the much-maligned social media platform.

One of the changes Musk made was putting the blue checkmark behind an $8 paywall. The blue checkmark was once gained after a credibility check by Twitter.
