It looks like the #TakeAKnee movement in the NFL has ended. What happened? President Trump defeats NFL and Commissioner Goodell releases a new statement directing the players, coaches and owners to stand during the national anthem.

The letter was sent to all 32 teams in the NFL. It was a direct response to the national anthem protests that have came under fire by President Trump.

Per NFL.com:

The current dispute over the National Anthem is threatening to erode the unifying power of our game, and is now dividing us, and our players, from many fans across the country.

Like many of our fans, we believe that everyone should stand for the National Anthem. It is an important moment in our game. We want to honor our flag and our country, and our fans expect that of us. We also care deeply about our players and respect their opinions and concerns about critical social issues. The controversy over the Anthem is a barrier to having honest conversations and making real progress on the underlying issues. We need to move past this controversy, and we want to do that together with our players.

The letter went on and Goodell mentioned how everyone in the league "needs to come together" and he has hopes of getting this issue resolved next week during the Fall League Meeting in New York.

President Trump tweeted about the NFL not getting tax breaks due to the protests just hours before Goodell released his statement.
