During a recent event, Republican presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy had a noteworthy conversation with an activist who identified as "pansexual." The exchange took place at the Iowa State Fair and gained significant attention online.
The discussion began when the activist queried about Ramaswamy's perspectives on the LGBTQ+ community.
Ramaswamy answered, "Well, I don't think it's one community."
To which the activist exclaimed, "Really?"
"Yeah. I mean, how could it be," Ramaswamy elaborated. "It's like blending together various letters of the alphabet. In my view, the concept of 'trans' is essentially at odds with 'gay'. But I'm curious, what's your take?"
The activist shared, "I personally am pansexual," elaborating that it refers to an attraction to all genders and sexes.
Subsequently, the conversation shifted to Ramaswamy's stance on same-sex couples.
Ramaswamy articulated, "I hold no negative sentiments towards same-sex couples. However, I am concerned about what I perceive as a 'tyranny of the minority.' While our history has instances where the majority exerted undue influence, now, in an attempt to guard against such dominion, we might be witnessing a rising 'tyranny of the minority.'
He added, "In my view, it's not right for someone with religious beliefs to be mandated to conduct a wedding they oppose. Similarly, a woman who has worked diligently for her accolades shouldn't have to race against a biological male in sports. Nor should a woman be mandated to share a changing space with a male. That, in my eyes, isn't liberty. It's subjugation."
.@VivekGRamaswamy: What's your opinion on same-sex couples and the LGBTQ+ community?
"I don't have a negative view of same-sex couples, but I do have a negative view of the tyranny of the minority. In the name of protecting against the tyranny of the majority, we have now… pic.twitter.com/gw6OZ0Md5V

The discourse continued with Ramaswamy expressing, "And so I believe that we live in a country where free adults should be free to dress how they want, behave how they want and that's fine, but you don't oppress you don't become oppressive by foisting that on others, especially kids because they're not adults. Adults have the liberty to make their choices, but it's crucial not to impose these ideologies on children who aren't yet equipped to make adult decisions.
"I believe much of the country's unease, which I personally resonate with, stems from this emerging oppressive culture where voicing such opinions can lead to repercussions. It's my duty to voice these thoughts, and I understand you might see it differently. Our ability to engage civilly is a testament to our nation's strength. It signifies the essence of our nation where both of us can have a candid dialogue, express our viewpoints to a presidential candidate, and still stand united under one flag. That's the splendor of our nation and my genuine viewpoint."
At the conclusion of their conversation, the activist extended her gratitude towards Ramaswamy, who reciprocated by appreciating "her civility."
Their conversation became a social media sensation, amassing over 13 million views across various platforms.
Ramaswamy is no stranger to such viral moments. Previously, at a campaign event in Iowa during July, he had an encounter with a liberal protestor advocating for abortion rights. Despite attempts by the audience to drown out her voice, Ramaswamy championed her right to speak, inviting her to the forefront to share her stance.
According to RealClearPolitics, Ramaswamy's popularity is on the rise within the GOP primary polls. He currently stands third, following former President Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, securing 6.4% of the support.
