Mayor Adams Offers to Teach Florida Governor NYC Values; DeSantis Team Rejects Offer

Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican, responded to Eric Adams, the Democratic mayor of New York City, with an offer to educate him on the "values" of their crime-plagued city.

On Monday, Florida governor Ron DeSantis began his pro-politics tour of Democratic-run cities in New York City. Mayor Eric Adams took aim at DeSantis during the start of his tour.

"Welcome to NYC," Adams tweeted on Monday. "A place where we don't ban books or discriminate against LGBTQ+ neighbors, use asylum seekers as props or let the government stand between a woman and health care," she added.

Mayor Adams concluded, "We would be honored to teach you something about values while you're here."

Just minutes after Eric Adams' remarks, Governor DeSantis' campaign spokeswoman Christina Pushaw quickly responded through her campaign representative, noting that New York City had experienced the highest number of departures among all metropolitan areas in the previous year.

"Nice rhetoric – but here’s reality: More Americans fled NYC than any other metro area last year," Pushaw stated. "More Americans moved to Florida than any other state."

"You know this, Mayor Adams, and you’ve talked (accurately) about crime pushing people out of NYC," Pushaw continued. "Florida’s crime rate meanwhile is at a 50-year low."

"Maybe it’s you who can learn from [DeSantis]?" the governor’s spokesperson concluded.

On Monday morning, Governor DeSantis began his tour by meeting with police officers and law enforcement union representatives at a diner in Staten Island, a Republican-leaning borough.
