On Wednesday, former first lady and failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton praised USA Olympic gymnast Simone Biles after she withdrew from the Tokyo games and left her team hanging out to dry.
Clinton wrote, “Competing or not, gold or not, Simone Biles is a model of strength, excellence, and true character.” She also added a goat emoji to indicate that Biles is the "GOAT."
I guess it takes a sore loser to know a sore loser, yeah? There is no doubt that Biles is the GOAT and truly the best in gymnastics. However, I have a hard time supporting her decision to quit and leave her team hanging. She practically handed the victory to Russia. Who does that??
I grew up being told that quitters never win and winners never quit. Apparently the next generation wasn't taught the same values.
Biles claims that her withdrawal was for her own mental health because she could not handle being front and center. “Whenever you get in a high-stress situation, you kind of freak out. I have to focus on my mental health and not jeopardize my health and well-being,” she said.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama also tweeted to Biles on Tuesday and said that despite her pulling out, “we are proud of you and we are rooting for you.”

I am truly mixed on how I feel about the situation. Do I think the Olympics were being unfair for judging Biles differently than others competing in the same competition? Yes, I do. Do I think she had every right to be upset, yes. Do I agree with her withdrawing and letting down her team and country? No, I do not.
