Brodie, an internet celebrity with a large social media following, has gained fame for his impressive dancing skills. Above all, he's recognized for being a remarkably good boy. Recently, he showcased his interest in basketball. Weighing 80 pounds, this popular Goldendoodle named Brodie, also known by his online moniker @BrodieThatDood, was spotted at a Lakers-Knicks game on Monday night, held at the Crypto.com Arena. He was seen enjoying the game courtside, sharing a seat with his closest human companion, Cliff Brush Jr.
"A recurring theme we heard all night — from the announcers, the refs, the season-ticket holders who’ve been there for 20-plus years — everyone was saying they’ve never seen this before their entire life," Brush said in a Tuesday phone interview with The Times. "So it definitely seemed like a first. Maybe there’s been little dogs that people just don’t even notice, but you can’t miss Brodie.”
Brush mentioned that he had obtained prior approval from arena security for Brodie's attendance, confident that the sizable dog would be well-behaved. Throughout the game, Brodie contentedly stayed either on Brush's lap or nestled under his seat, close to his human friend's legs. According to Brush, Brodie peacefully remained beside the court action for the entire duration of the game without any issues.
“I have no worries. I trust him 100%," said Brush, who lives in Florida. "As long as he’s with me, he’s gonna be well behaved and in control. Yeah, I don’t worry about him ’cause he’s a good boy.”
Brodie, a 4-year-old service animal, is trained to exhibit good behavior in various situations. Brush, who initially worked as an accountant, began sharing content featuring Brodie on social media. The popularity of these posts grew to such an extent that Brush was able to leave his accounting job to focus on being a full-time content creator. Together, Brush and Brodie have amassed approximately 15 million followers across various social media platforms, Brush reports.
However, within this partnership, there is a definite standout star.
“Everywhere we go, Brodie is taking pictures, signing paw-tographs, especially in airports and large crowded places,” Brush said.
Brodie has had the unique opportunity to initiate two Florida Marlins games — "it's essentially a first fetch, if you will," Brush humorously remarked. The duo also attended a Miami Heat game, where they were courtside during the warmups but relocated a few rows back for the actual game.
Brush and Brodie traveled to Los Angeles for an interview with "Access Hollywood," scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. As part of this visit, they were offered two courtside seats by Lakers jersey sponsor Bibigo in return for a social media post, with the second seat going to the duo's agent.
At the arena, Brodie's popularity was so evident that he and Brush required a security escort to reach their seats, which were impressively located next to the famous couple, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick. During the pregame warmups, Knicks shooting guard Josh Hart acknowledged Brodie with a shout-out and a high-five, despite the dog sporting an Austin Reaves jersey.
