Female Basketball Influencers Admit Why They've Been Able to Make So Much Money

Over the year, the Cavinder twins, Haley and Hanna, saw a surge in their popularity, enhancing their social media presence and contributing to the Miami Hurricanes women's basketball team's journey to the Elite Eight.

Before the 2022-23 season began, they shifted from Fresno State to Miami. In 2021, Haley Cavinder received the title of Mountain West Player of the Year, while Hanna Cavinder earned an All-Mountain West distinction. Their basketball skills not only garnered attention on the court but also made them social media sensations. This prominence led to NIL contracts with various firms, WWE being one of them.

As the Cavinders approach the end of their college basketball journey, they had a conversation with GQ magazine discussing their achievements. Amidst the rumors and speculations during the summer about their success, the magazine directly questioned them: "how they might respond to the criticism that they’ve unfairly benefited from both their looks and their whiteness."

The Cavinder twins responded thoughtfully.

Haley Cavinder admitted to the outlet, "I think that … that’s true. We were put in a position to capitalize off of (opportunities), and that's what we're doing."

Her twin, Hanna Cavinder, shared her perspective, noting, "I'm never gonna sit here and not understand other people's side ... I know that Haley and I have worked really, really hard. And I don’t wanna ever judge someone based on what they can’t control."

Expanding on her initial response, Haley Cavinder said, "I see it, though. I see why people will be like, well, they're two White girls, they show their bodies, whatever. I'm not gonna deny that fact. But at the end of the day, what would you do? I wanna make this amount of money. I wanna be successful just as much as anyone else. But I also am not gonna deny that fact, and not sympathize and figure out like, OK, how can we help? How can we use our platform?"

The Cavinders emphasize the importance of giving back.

These ex-basketball sensations discussed the potential of contributing in the future. GQ reported that the twins are considering revisiting campuses to advise student-athletes on maximizing NIL deals.

Additionally, they shed light on their decision to discuss their personal struggles with eating disorders, especially on World Eating Disorders Action Day in June.

"We had to stare in the mirror and really reflect on (ourselves) and be like, What do you want to do? Do you wanna help people? Do you wanna keep lying to yourself?" Hanna Cavinder said. "It had nothing to do with brands, anything like that. I wanted to show people, this is truly us. This is a different side of the Cavinder twins."

Haley Cavinder chimed in, "I think that also, being female athletes, it's so hard in that world."
