Columbus Public Health is checking a McDonald's after a customer said they found drug paraphernalia in their breakfast bag on Tuesday in West Columbus.

The customer first talked about it on Reddit, saying they got something like a “crack pipe” in their McDonald's bag after buying breakfast at the store on 619 Harrisburg Pike. Other people on Reddit told them to tell Franklin County Public Health.

A Reddit user showed a photo of what they think might be drug tools found in their McDonald's bag in Columbus. Alex Mendoza, who owns the McDonald's, said they are looking into this claim.

“As a local business owner, the safety of my customers and crew is my first priority, and we take this very seriously," Mendoza said. "We’ve begun a thorough internal review of this claim. We have no indication that the item came from our restaurant but are continuing to investigate and have contacted local law enforcement to report the matter.”

A representative from McDonald's mentioned that after checking the security camera footage in the kitchen and talking to the staff, there's no evidence that the item came from McDonald's.

Franklin County Public Health said they got the complaint and passed it on to Columbus Public Health. Kelli Newman, who speaks for Columbus Public Health, shared that they are sending a health inspector to the McDonald's on Wednesday for a quick check-up.

A photo given to the Columbus Dispatch by the Reddit user shows a strange-looking cylindrical object near a McDonald's bag.

The Reddit user mentioned that he showed the bag to a manager at McDonald's, who offered to give the money back. The user said he didn't take the money back. He explained that he just wanted to let the staff know about it to prevent something like this from getting into a kid's meal. As a parent, he was worried about children's safety and felt relieved that he had only bought breakfast for himself that day.

The Columbus Division of Police stated they didn't get any calls about this issue at that McDonald's on Tuesday.

McDonald's hasn't given a response to a request for a statement yet.
