If you've ever visited the website Snopes.com to try and learn whether or not something you've heard was true...don't do it again; they're garbage.

The "fact-checking" website recently published an article that dismissed the idea that Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer had banned the sales of the American flags in the state because of the coronavirus.

This ban is part of a larger ban on non-essential items and I guess the American flag is one of them. But what may not be essential for one person may be essential for another.

According to Snopes, this story is just fake news...but is it?

Snopes reported,

On April 9, 2020, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-42 as part of the state’s effort to combat the COVID-19 coronavirus disease pandemic. This order extended the state’s shelter-in-place policy to May 1 and tightened some business regulations. For instance, one section of the order required stores larger than 50,000 square feet to do the following:

Close areas of the store — by cordoning them off, placing signs in aisles, posting prominent signs, removing goods from shelves, or other appropriate means — that are dedicated to the following classes of goods:

A. Carpet or flooring.
B. Furniture.
C. Garden centers and plant nurseries.
D. Paint.

When we reached out to Whitmer’s office, we were told: “No, Governor Whitmer is not banning buying US flags.”

They claim that the reason this came to be a thing was because of one tweet:

Snopes, however, got fact-checked themselves after a number of people showed more photos taken at different locations proving that it was Snopes that was false.

Here are pictures from other Twitter users from different stores showing the same thing.

One man tweeted, "Yes it’s true I’m here at Costco in Commerce Michigan Spoke w the MGR he said Flags weren’t considered essential as well as garden items and yard furniture This Governor has to go !!"

I'm serious though, Snopes is no place to try and find accurate information. You want to know what kind of guy he is, just Google him and his divorce.
