President Donald Trump took aim at Walmart on Saturday, accusing the retail giant of using his tariffs as an excuse to raise prices and urging the company to absorb the costs instead.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump blasted the Arkansas-based retailer after it warned this week that a broad range of consumer goods—from bananas to baby car seats—could see price increases due to higher import taxes.
“Walmart should STOP trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain,” Trump wrote. “Walmart made BILLIONS OF DOLLARS last year, far more than expected. Between Walmart and China they should, as is said, ‘EAT THE TARIFFS,’ and not charge valued customers ANYTHING.”
Trump argued that his tariff-driven economic strategy would ultimately lead to more domestic manufacturing jobs, and he criticized Walmart for not sacrificing some of its profit to help customers in the meantime.
“I’ll be watching, and so will your customers!!!” he added.
The retail giant, which employs more than 1.6 million Americans, has expressed concern that Trump’s escalating import taxes could lead to higher costs across its supply chain, putting pressure on American shoppers.
