Protests aka riots are still going on across the country following the death of George Floyd by Minneapolis police. There are now some peaceful protests going on but even some of those are getting out of hand very quickly when the crowds fail to disperse.
The economy is already in a rough state because of the coronavirus. By the way, does anyone else realize how much of a non-conversation the coronavirus has become now that the riots are going on?
These riots are making the economy much worse nationwide, but especially locally. Keep in mind that in these riots, businesses that are essential to the community are being destroyed. Pretty soon they're going to realize they can't find enough food.
But speaking of food, one pizza chain is actually paying their employees to go out and protest. That chain is "&pizza" and they're telling their employees that they can maintain your job as they will pay you to go out and protest.
&pizza tweeted about their commitment to this protest.
"For those in this pain. For those in this fight. We stand with the Black Community against racial hate and injustice. In memory of George Floyd & in UNITY always.
From this day forward, @andpizza will be giving its employees paid time off for activism. For those unseen by this country to be seen. For those unheard by this government to be heard."
"Though a spokesperson was not immediately available to offer further comment on the new policy, a representative told Food & Wine that the additional days off will be added to the paid time off (PTO) that employees already receive. The custom-pie restaurant chain, based in Washington, D.C., employs about 700 people across 40 locations in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts. The new time-off policy will empower employees “to participate in activism of their choosing starting this week and moving forward,” the spokesperson said."
"&pizza has distributed over 44,000 free pies to hospital workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, while providing raises and extra benefits to employees at all levels of the company, as well as free food and support to government workers affected by the 2019 government shutdown."
Personally, I've never even heard of the chain, but now you have the information you need to decide for yourself whether you want to support them or not.
