"Pennies On The Dollar": Trump Launches New Website to Slash Drug Prices

President Donald Trump officially launched TrumpRx.gov on Thursday evening. The new government-backed website aims to provide Americans with direct access to discounted prescription drugs. During the White House event, Trump argued that Americans have been "subsidizing the entire world" by paying the highest drug prices on earth.

The initiative is built on most-favored-nation pricing deals. Under these agreements, 16 of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies have pledged to offer U.S. consumers the lowest price paid by any other developed nation. Trump claimed these deals would lower costs by as much as 300% to 600% in some cases.

"We’re taking the lowest price anywhere in the world," Trump told the audience. "That’s the price you’re going to be paying." He was joined by CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz and digital advisor Joe Gebbia to unveil the site.

The platform operates as a direct-to-consumer clearinghouse for those paying with cash. It allows patients to bypass traditional insurance middle-men and buy directly from manufacturers. Most users can search for their medication and download a gold-embossed coupon.

"Novo Nordisk will be slashing the price of Wegovy from more than $1,300 to $199," Trump said. "AstraZeneca is slashing the price of a common inhaler from $458 to $51." He also highlighted major price drops for IVF medications and diabetes treatments.

The site directs users to specific mail-order pharmacies for specialty drugs. These partners deliver the discounted medications directly to the patient's home. It is important to note that these purchases generally do not count toward insurance deductibles.
