A New Jersey physical education instructor was incarcerated following allegations from an ex-student about an inappropriate relationship during the student's high school years.

Lydia Pinto, 38, previously employed at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, faced charges on November 8, including first-degree aggravated sexual assault and two counts of second-degree sexual assault. The arrest occurred peacefully.

This case unfolded when the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office initiated a probe into Pinto's actions on October 16, triggered by an anonymous email received by the Bridgewater Police Department, which described the alleged misconduct with the student.

In a press release dated November 17, Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald stated that the now-adult victim was located and interviewed by detectives from the office's sex crimes and child abuse unit on October 26.

"The victim reported engaging in a relationship with former teacher, Lydia Pinto," the release read. "The victim further reported that the relationship turned sexual when the victim was between the ages of 14 to 15 and continued until the victim's senior year of high school."

The prosecutor indicated that all the alleged sexual activities occurred within Raritan Borough.

According to My Central Jersey, Pinto served as a coach for field hockey and girls lacrosse at the school, and a Facebook post on the high school's page mentioned her role as a driver's education instructor.

Attempts by Fox News Digital to contact administrators at Bridgewater-Raritan School District or the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office for a statement were unsuccessful as of the latest report.

Following her arrest, Pinto was detained in Somerset County Jail. However, jail officials informed Fox News Digital that she was released seven days later, on November 15, pending her forthcoming court appearance.
