A Louisiana woman is facing serious fraud charges after allegedly living large — while illegally collecting Medicaid benefits. Authorities say she even bought a Lamborghini.
Candace Taylor, 35, of Slidell, was arrested Monday and dubbed the “Medicaid millionaire” by Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill’s office. Investigators say Taylor underreported her income to qualify for low-income health benefits — all while raking in millions through her businesses.
An affidavit says Taylor repeatedly transferred tens of thousands between personal and business accounts from 2021 to 2024. Her personal income regularly exceeded Medicaid’s eligibility limits.
Medicaid is meant to help low-income adults and children with health coverage. It’s partly funded by the federal government but largely managed by individual states — and Louisiana flagged Taylor’s suspicious application activity.
She first applied for Medicaid in 2019 using the name “Candace Sailor,” claiming a $1,900 biweekly income and no dependents. That application was denied. But she tried again the next year — still under the misspelled name — with conflicting details about having a dependent.
Eventually, investigators uncovered that Taylor owned six businesses generating more than $9.5 million between 2020 and 2024. Court documents show she deposited nearly half a million dollars into her accounts, with at least $325,000 tied directly to her companies.
Authorities said she spent lavishly — including $45,000 in payments to Audi Finance, a $100,000 wire to an exotic car dealership, and a $13,000 debit charge for a 2022 Lamborghini Urus. And that’s not all.
Taylor also pulled out multiple six-figure cashier’s checks to fund cosmetic surgery, property deals, luxury jewelry, and high-end services, investigators said.
Despite that, she reapplied for Medicaid just two months after buying the Lamborghini, this time claiming to earn $4,000 per month from an unnamed business — while leaving out that she owned it. Officials said she even flaunted her opulent lifestyle on social media.
