Matt Damon, the 52-year-old actor, pledged to his wife, Luciana Barroso, that he would take a hiatus from Hollywood, with a single caveat - if an offer from Christoper Nolan came along, he would accept it.
After making this commitment, Damon found himself presented with an unexpected call from the acclaimed director, inviting him to participate in the highly anticipated film, "Oppenheimer." Staying true to his word, Damon accepted the offer.
"This is going to sound made up, but it’s actually true," Damon started. "I had — not to get too personal — negotiated extensively with my wife that I was taking time off," he said during a panel discussion for Entertainment Weekly with his Oppenheimer co-stars.

Having starred in Nolan's film "Interstellar", Damon shared that he was "put me on ice for a couple movies" and wasn't "in the rotation." Yet, he and his wife made a mutual agreement that if a call from the "Oppenheimer" director came through with a role, that would be an exception to the rule.
"I actually negotiated in couples therapy — this is a true story — the one caveat to my taking time off was if Chris Nolan called. This is without knowing whether or not he was working on anything, because he never tells you. He just calls you out of the blue. And so, it was a moment in my household."
To which Nolan replied, "[It’s] a fun way to do it."
Damon, along with his wife of 17 years, is a proud parent to four daughters — Isabella, Stella, Gia, and Alexia. Alexia is from Barroso's prior relationship.
