A nonpartisan police leadership group, the only national law enforcement advocacy group to endorse political candidates, is weighing in on the 2024 White House race.
Police Leaders for Community Safety announced Monday their endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris. The announcement was first shared with Fox News.
The group is led by a diverse team of prominent police professionals. Their mission? To support policies that make communities safer, improve policing, and uphold the rule of law.
This endorsement gives Harris significant law enforcement backing. It follows the earlier endorsement of former President Donald Trump by the National Fraternal Order of Police, the largest police union in the country.
Trump also secured support earlier this year from the International Union of Police Associations, another major law enforcement group.
Sue Riseling, chair of Police Leaders for Community Safety, said Harris’ record shows an unwavering commitment to public safety and the rule of law.
David Mahoney, a board member and former Wisconsin sheriff, highlighted Harris’ prosecutorial career. He praised her for protecting people, supporting victims, and holding wrongdoers accountable.
Board Vice Chair Rick Myers, a former police chief in eight communities, added, "We need a leader who will protect both the 2nd Amendment and fight gun violence, and that leader is Kamala Harris."
