Vice President Kamala Harris sparked reactions at her Labor Day rally in Detroit, Michigan, by unveiling what some are calling a new "accent."
She spent the holiday in the Motor City, aiming to connect with blue-collar union workers in this key battleground state.
"You better thank a union member for the five-day work week," Harris said, noticeably altering her voice. "You better thank a union member for sick leave. You better thank a union member for paid leave. You better thank a union member for vacation time."
Critics quickly took to social media. The conservative X account, Johnny MAGA, criticized her "Detroit speak," labeling the VP "cringe and fake."
Trump senior advisor Stephen Miller chimed in, saying, "This is her seventh new accent in four weeks. She has literally never used this accent before. She grew up in Canada. Phoniest politician in all of politics."
"There are countless traits that I despise in humans, few as much as inauthenticity," added professor and podcast host Gad Saad.
GOP strategist Matt Whitlock commented, "All of politics is a performance to Kamala Harris. She changes fake accents like she changes policy positions and political personas. Today she’s talking in a fake southern accent, pretending to be a moderate. Next week she’ll be back to San Francisco liberal."
The Trump campaign highlighted her "cringe" accent in another clip where Harris told a rallygoer, "Let's just get through the next 64 days, how about that!?" followed by her signature laugh.
Libs of TikTok reacted, asking, "What did I just watch… what’s with this new accent? The fakeness and cringe here is off the charts."
Some X users even compared Harris' accent to the iconic Looney Tunes character Foghorn Leghorn.
Critics noted that Harris dropped the accent during the same stump speech later in Pittsburgh.
"Same speech. Two entirely different accents," observed conservative commentator Greg Price, sharing clips from both rallies. "She's the fakest human being that has ever lived."
Harris has been repeatedly accused of altering her accent based on her audience.
In July, she was criticized for using a fake Southern accent at a rally in Atlanta. During a 2021 trip to France, she was accused of adopting a "French accent" while touring a COVID lab.
