Jeopardy Contestant Sends Social Media Into Frenzy With Answer to Olympics Question

A "Jeopardy!" contestant became an internet sensation on Thursday. Her guess to a clue about an American Olympic gold medalist made viewers laugh.

The clue showed a picture of figure skating icon Scott Hamilton. It asked for the gold medalist who performed a program with multiple triple jumps. Deb Bilodeau guessed, "Who is Mary Lou Retton?" with $2,000 in hand.

Viewers were amused by her answer, taking to social media to share their reactions. One fan couldn't stop laughing, another spat out wine, and a third noted it was a rough night for Hamilton.

The next day, another fan defended Bilodeau, suggesting the photo did resemble Retton a bit. They remarked that under pressure, the mistake wasn't so far-fetched, though still hilarious.

Bilodeau was visibly embarrassed upon realizing her error. She explained to host Ken Jennings she had lost her glasses the day before. "Apologize to Scott Hamilton," she said, as reported by the New York Post.

Despite the mix-up, Bilodeau bounced back and won that night.

Both Hamilton and Retton, the subjects of the mix-up, have faced health challenges. Hamilton is delaying brain tumor surgery until necessary, feeling at "peace" with his choice. Retton recently dealt with a severe pneumonia scare.
