Vice President Kamala Harris is making a move to win over frustrated Republicans. She’s heading to Ripon, Wisconsin, the town known as the birthplace of the GOP.
Harris will join forces with former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney. Once a rising star, Cheney is now one of the GOP's most vocal anti-Trump figures.
The event will be held at a historic schoolhouse where the Republican Party was born in 1854. Harris will highlight the importance of this place as she appeals to Republicans unhappy with Trump as their nominee.
Harris is expected to praise Cheney for putting the country above party. Cheney recently announced that she will vote for Harris, saying, "As a conservative, I care about the Constitution… Trump is a danger."
Cheney's father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, also endorsed Harris. Trump dismissed these endorsements, calling them "irrelevant."
Cheney was once a top House Republican. But she voted to impeach Trump after the Jan. 6th Capitol attack, leading to her ousting from GOP leadership.
Cheney served on the committee investigating the Capitol riot and lost her 2022 primary to a Trump-backed candidate. She has vowed to keep Trump out of the Oval Office.
Harris will assure Republicans that she stands for upholding the Constitution and the rule of law. More prominent Republicans, like Adam Kinzinger and Geoff Duncan, are also backing Harris.
In battleground Wisconsin, this support from anti-Trump Republicans could make all the difference. With the race tightening, even a small shift in Republican votes could tip the scales.
