A teacher in Daytona Beach, FL, was charged with a felony of child abuse for allegedly striking a special-needs student with a book.
"You hit her, I hit you," Madison Anthony (25) allegedly stated.
According to a charging affidavit obtained by ClickOrlando, the event started when one special-needs student hit another with a book. Anthony retaliated by taking the book, walking around a table, and hitting the student with it.
According to the same outlet, the mother of the child wants to file charges.
The alleged troubling event occurred at Champion Elementary School in a classroom for "exceptional student education." ESE classrooms aim, as per Florida's Department of Education, to aid disabled students in advancing in school and future life.

A staff member informed a school resource officer of seeing Anthony hitting a student. Anthony and two other teachers shared the same classroom due to the increased needs of the special-needs students, as reported by ClickOrlando.
Ms. Anthony was arrested Thursday evening for an alleged violation of Florida's child abuse law. She was released on her own recognizance, without bail, on Friday afternoon, according to records from Volusia County's Division of Corrections.
"After learning about this unacceptable incident, the substitute teacher was immediately removed from the Volusia County School’s list of approved substitutes," according to a Volusia County Schools statement acquired by ClickOrlando.
"Consequently, this individual will no longer be employed by Volusia Schools. Volusia County Schools continues to place the utmost importance on the safety and security of all students and staff. A secure and sound learning environment is crucial to our student’s success. It is our goal to always maintain this standard," the statement concluded.
As of Tuesday morning, Ms. Anthony is still listed as a "Sub Teacher" on the school's website under the faculty and staff section.
Anthony's arraignment is scheduled for February 21, per the New York Post.
