"I was going to do it anyway," Musk said. Hannity pointed out that his endorsement came after an attempt on Trump’s life in Butler, Pennsylvania.
"That was it?" Hannity asked.
"That was a precipitating event," Musk replied.
"That sped it up a little bit?" Trump asked. "I didn’t know that."
Musk nodded. "It sped it up, but I was going to do it anyway."
Musk publicly backed Trump after the Pennsylvania rally shooting. His endorsement shook up the race. Even some Democrats believe it changed the campaign.
"Not even just that he has endorsed [Trump], but the fact that now he’s becoming an active participant," Sen. John Fetterman told The New York Times. He said Musk’s influence could sway key voters.
Fetterman compared Musk to a real-life Tony Stark. "I mean, [Musk] is incredibly successful," he said. "Some people would see him as, like, a Tony Stark."
He warned fellow Democrats not to dismiss Musk. "They make fun of him jumping up and down," he said. "And I would just say that they are doing that at our peril."
Speaking to CNN, Fetterman admitted he was worried. "Endorsements, they’re really not meaningful often," he said. "But this one is, I think. That has me concerned."
