Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers tried to rally excitement for the NFL Draft, but social media wasn't buying it.
In a video posted Wednesday, Evers donned a green Packers polo and tossed a football to himself.
“Go long, Tony,” he said before catching it and spiking it into the dirt.
The clip quickly drew mockery online. Users had a field day teasing the Democratic governor for the awkward display.
Later, Evers posted more videos—this time from the draft stage. He also shared clips of himself meeting fans ahead of the big night.
“Wisconsin, we’re here in Titletown! Everyone is jazzed and getting ready for a great first night of the Draft!” he wrote.
He kept the energy up Thursday, posting again from Green Bay. “Having a heckuva time in Titletown with a DMD and thousands of my favorite Cheeseheads. See you out here, Green Bay!”
Green Bay, the NFL’s smallest market, is hosting the draft for the first time. An estimated 250,000 fans are expected to pour into the city.
A Packers-themed dive bar experience—Packers Everywhere Draft Haus—is also part of the festivities. It’s set up in Lambeau Field’s parking lot.
The NFL Draft marks the first big event of the league's season. Despite being a glorified list-reading, it draws millions of viewers and thousands of in-person fans.
The Packers hold the 23rd overall pick this year. Their fans will be anxiously waiting to hear who gets the call.
