Democrat Becomes First Senator on Truth Social, Defends Trump, Hunter Biden in First Post

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., made waves on Tuesday by posting on President-elect Donald Trump’s platform, "Truth Social." He became the first Democratic senator to do so.

Fetterman’s post caused a stir. He condemned the legal cases against both Trump and Hunter Biden. His message was clear and bold.

"My first truth," he wrote. "The Trump hush money and Hunter Biden cases were both bulls---, and pardons are appropriate. Weaponizing the judiciary for blatant, partisan gain diminishes the collective faith in our institutions and sows further division."

He shared a screenshot alongside his post. The headline read, "Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg responds to Trump’s motion to dismiss hush money case." It highlighted Bragg’s opposition to dismissing Trump’s 34 felony counts.

Bragg argued Trump’s motion "goes well beyond what is necessary to protect the presidency." He emphasized the importance of upholding the jury’s verdict and the rule of law.

Fetterman’s post followed President Biden’s recent pardon of Hunter Biden. The pardon covered crimes between 2014 and 2024, including firearm and tax-related charges. The move sparked widespread criticism, even from within Biden’s party.

In a statement, Biden claimed his son was "unfairly" targeted by the DOJ. Fetterman echoed this view in his post, aligning with the president’s defense of Hunter.

Fetterman also addressed this on "The View" last week. "The case against Hunter Biden was politically motivated," he said. "But the trial in New York for Trump was political, too. In both cases, a pardon is appropriate."

The senator argued these cases hurt public trust. "Americans’ confidence in institutions has been damaged," he said. "We cannot allow them to be weaponized against political opponents. Both trials were clearly politically motivated."
