Costco Recalls Popular Snack After Linking It To Dangerous Bacteria

Costco is recalling thousands of pounds of tuna poke after a sample tested positive for dangerous bacteria.

Washington-based Western United Fish Company, also known as Annasea Foods Group, is recalling 3,314.7 pounds of Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke. The problem: green onions may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes, the FDA said.

The recall was triggered after the company’s green onion supplier reported a positive listeria test. Only the poke made on Sept. 17 is affected.

“We are continuing to work with our green onion supplier to determine the root cause,” the company said.

The recalled product has a Costco item number of 17193. It comes in clear clamshell containers with the Kirkland Signature label. Pack date: Sept. 18, 2025. Sell-by date: Sept. 22. The poke was sold in Costco deli sections in more than 30 states.

Listeriosis can range from mild to severe. The FDA says the less severe form causes fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, usually lasting one to three days.

The more severe form, invasive listeriosis, can spread beyond the intestines. Symptoms may include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. Pregnant women are at risk for serious complications.

States affected include: Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
