As John Cena enters the final stretch of his wrestling career, he's not only making waves in the ring but also opening up about his life outside of it—particularly with his wife, Shay Shariatzadeh.
“Honestly it could be so simple,” Cena told Us Weekly at the Amazon Upfronts. “Put your f’n phone at home. Not in your pocket, I don’t even bring it with me. You only need one person to dial 911, so only one phone, that way we’re both present. And when you’re there, you’re there.”
Cena emphasized the importance of being mentally and emotionally present with loved ones, adding, “If your mind is scattered, and you’re not ready yet, take like a 5-minute [break], tell the person you’re with like ‘man I don’t know if I’m in the headspace to be here,’ but when you’re there, you’re there.”
The 16-time world champion married Shariatzadeh in 2020 after his highly publicized split from fellow WWE star Nikki Bella. The couple began dating shortly after Cena and Bella parted ways.
Inside the ring, Cena is going out in unforgettable fashion. In recent months, he won the Elimination Chamber, shockingly aligned himself with The Rock, and dethroned Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 to become the Undisputed WWE Champion.
Now performing as a heel, Cena retained the title against longtime rival Randy Orton at Backlash, continuing his unexpected final run as the top villain in WWE.
