Whoopi Goldberg claimed a Staten Island bakery refused her service due to her political beliefs. The bakery owner denied this.
On "The View," Goldberg celebrated her 69th birthday with Charlotte Russe desserts. She shared that these desserts were her late mother’s favorite.

Goldberg said her birthday order almost didn’t happen. She claimed the bakery objected to her left-wing political views.
"They said their ovens had gone down, all kinds of stuff," Goldberg said. She suggested her order was rejected not because of her gender but her politics.
Despite this, Goldberg urged everyone to enjoy the desserts. "This is my mother’s celebration," she said. "Pick these up and celebrate with me and my mom."
Entertainment Weekly identified the bakery as Holtermann’s Bakery. The distinctive pink polka-dotted packaging was a giveaway.
Jill Holtermann, the bakery’s owner, denied political motives. She said the issue stemmed from their 1930s building's boiler problems.
It’s really ridiculous when WEALTHY LEFTISTS publicly bash small businesses that are just trying to make a living! This bakery is a STAPLE on Staten Island and will do JUST FINE without Whoopi Goldberg’s “business” pic.twitter.com/47t2LSiJrk

Holtermann confirmed she eventually made the treats. They were picked up early Wednesday for "The View."
Holtermann emphasized the delay wasn’t political. "I didn’t want to commit to something I couldn’t deliver," she said.
Staten Island Live reported that Holtermann’s has received a flood of calls since the episode aired.
