Walmart Launches Promotional Response to Amazon Prime Days

In the retail world, Walmart and Amazon are fierce competitors. Their rivalry is ongoing and intense.

Amazon is speeding up deliveries through conventional routes. Meanwhile, Walmart is pushing forward with drone delivery, improving every day.

Both giants want a bigger market share. Amazon holds over 37% of the U.S. online retail market, while Walmart has more than 6%. In physical stores, Walmart outshines Amazon’s smaller in-person presence.

Amazon leads in e-commerce. But Walmart, with over 10,000 stores, is eager to catch up quickly.

For spectators, the Walmart vs. Amazon battle is thrilling. When Amazon excels in delivery speed, Walmart surpasses it in sales. It's a classic free market competition, enhancing consumer experience.

Amazon Prime, priced at $139 per year, includes:

  • Free shipping, often two-day or next-day
  • Prime Video access
  • Savings at Whole Foods
  • Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card
  • Amazon Fresh store access
  • Try Before You Buy shopping
  • Amazon Photos storage

Walmart+ competes with Prime at $98 annually, offering:

  • Free store delivery
  • Free shipping and returns
  • Fuel savings at various gas stations
  • Paramount+ streaming
  • Auto maintenance at Walmart centers
  • Cash back on select travel
  • Exclusive prices during promotions
  • In-store mobile shopping

Despite Prime's lead with 200 million subscribers, Walmart+ has about 59 million members. Walmart is actively trying to attract more customers.

On Monday, Walmart launched Walmart+ week, akin to Amazon Prime Days, with many deals to lure shoppers.

Some of the offers include:

  • Double fuel discounts
  • Up to 20% back on travel booked via Walmart+ Travel
  • Free Express Delivery under two hours
  • Three months free of Walmart+ InHome delivery
  • A mystery offer on June 20

This event, only the second since it began last year, started at noon Eastern on June 17 and runs through June 23. It's strategically placed before Amazon's Prime Days in early July, which will also offer deep discounts and savings for members.

Amazon will soon announce the dates for its 2024 Prime Days event.
