Kai Trump, President-elect Trump’s granddaughter, had some fun on the golf course during the LIV-PGA showdown on Tuesday. She interviewed two-time Masters winner Scottie Scheffler in a playful and unexpected way.
While chatting with Scheffler before his exhibition match with Rory McIlroy against LIV Golf stars Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, Kai asked about his May 2024 arrest. Scheffler had been charged with several offenses, including second-degree assault of a police officer.
The incident happened at Valhalla Golf Club during the PGA Championship. Scheffler was trying to enter the course before the second round on May 17.
Kai kicked off the interview with a cheeky question, "Scottie, you’re too nice, but how was jail?"
Scheffler laughed and replied, "You know, honestly, it was a bit boring. There’s not really much to do in there. I was in a cell by myself and just kind of sitting in there looking at the walls. So, it was a little boring."
Kai, known for her charming golf vlogs on YouTube, couldn’t resist a joke. She referenced Tiger Woods’ 2017 legal troubles with a grin. "I mean, orange is not a bad color though – on you, honestly. You pulled it off just like Tiger Woods," she teased.
Scheffler shot back with a smile, "I prefer the burnt orange a little bit more than the jail cell orange."
The charges against Scheffler were eventually dropped. An internal investigation revealed that three Louisville Metro Police officers failed to activate their bodycams, violating police policy.
Detective Bryan Gillis faced "corrective action" for his involvement. The police were investigating the tragic death of a volunteer, who had been hit by a bus near the course, when the arrest occurred.
