Trump Expected to Rename Two Iconic Landmarks in First Day in Office

President-elect Trump plans to sign executive orders renaming the Gulf of Mexico and Mount Denali on his first day in office. Incoming White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the news Monday.

The New York Post first reported the changes. The Gulf of Mexico will be renamed the Gulf of America, and Mount Denali will return to its original name, Mount McKinley. Both changes will be made official through executive action.

"President Trump is bringing common sense to government and renewing the pillars of American Civilization," stated a preview of the order obtained by the Post.

The orders direct the Interior Secretary to update federal documents and maps with the new names. It's unclear if schools will also be required to adopt these changes.

Trump has often spoken about Mount Denali, emphasizing its historical name. "McKinley was a very good, maybe a great president," Trump said at a December rally. "They took his name off Mount McKinley, right? That’s what they do to people."

In 2015, President Obama renamed the mountain to Denali. This decision aligned with a request from the Alaska legislature.

Trump’s Day One agenda includes around 200 executive orders. They will address immigration and roll back DEI initiatives, among other priorities.

"As soon as President Trump places his hand on the Bible...the Golden Age of America will begin," Leavitt told Fox News Digital. "The American people will have a leader who will deliver on the promises he made to restore our country’s greatness."
