Jason Day, a professional golfer on the PGA Tour, disclosed the precise reason for Tiger Woods' withdrawal from the 2022 PGA Championship.
Following his withdrawal from the Masters due to a reaggravation of his plantar fasciitis, Woods informed the media that he withdrew because he was experiencing soreness. Nevertheless, Woods disclosed a different explanation to Day.
"I was talking to him at the end of last year, and then he was saying the reason why he pulled out of the PGA was a screw went through the skin on Saturday or whatever it was." Day said, via a report from the New York Post.
"I don’t know how bad it is this time… it just sucks that he’s not here playing."
During that tournament, Woods' third-round score of 79 was atypical, even accounting for his limited participation in the 2022 PGA Tour season. Consequently, he withdrew from the tournament following the round.
"I’m sore. I know that is for a fact," Woods said after withdrawing.
However, Woods was concealing the severity of his condition. He was suffering from pain in his right leg, which required surgical repair following a horrific car crash in February 2021. Additionally, there was an observable limp in Woods' gait, which was also evident at the Augusta National Golf Club during the recent week.
Following the initial round of the Masters, the weather conditions were less than ideal, and Woods had to cope with both rain and cold weather. Unfortunately, these conditions exacerbated the pain he was experiencing.
During his attempt to complete the second round on Saturday, Woods exhibited evident discomfort while taking a swing on the 17th hole. Day observed Woods "laboring pretty hard" during that moment, making it unsurprising that he eventually withdrew.
I am disappointed to have to WD this morning due to reaggravating my plantar fasciitis. Thank you to the fans and to @TheMasters who have shown me so much love and support. Good luck to the players today!

It is currently uncertain when Woods will make his return to the golf course, especially after his withdrawal this week. If his recent pattern persists, it is probable that Woods will focus on participating in major tournaments, with the PGA Championship being the next one on his schedule.
