Sunny Hostin is speaking out about the viral question that many believe derailed Kamala Harris’ campaign.
On a recent episode of “Behind the Table,” The View co-host defended her now-infamous question to Harris. Hostin asked if there was anything Harris would have done differently than President Biden. Harris responded, “not a thing comes to mind.”
The clip exploded online. Critics called it a major blunder. Even some Democrats said it was a missed chance to define herself apart from Biden.
“I knew it instantly when she answered it,” Hostin said on the podcast. “Which is why I asked the follow-up… I knew what was going to happen.” She stood by the question, though. “It was fair,” she said. “And one she should have expected.”
Despite the fallout, Hostin insisted she never meant to hurt Harris. “I feel terrible,” she told co-hosts, after learning CNN’s Jake Tapper cited the moment in his book. “I supported her. I thought she’d win.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin said the moment mattered. “The Trump campaign dumped ad money behind that exact clip,” she explained. “They used it to tie her to Biden’s unpopularity.”
Dem strategist James Carville didn’t mince words last fall. “That’s the one question she had to answer. And she froze,” he said. “That clip may have decided the election.”
