Whoopi Goldberg and Ana Navarro had a heated exchange on Monday’s episode of The View about President-elect Trump. The discussion centered on whether Americans should be panicked about his plans before Inauguration Day.
“All we have to do from now until January 21 is be with our families, be with our kids, do our jobs,” Goldberg said. She urged people to focus on themselves and not overreact. “Whatever he’s going to do, he’s going to do.”
The conversation turned to Trump’s interview with NBC News’ Kristen Welker and his latest appointments. Navarro pushed back, arguing that not everyone can afford to stay calm.
“I told you last week I disagree with you,” Navarro said. “If you’re an illegal immigrant, you’re not going to be not in a panic. If you’re a woman working for the Department of Defense, you have a right to be in a panic.”
Goldberg shot back, “Ana, you tell people to stay fraught.” Navarro clarified, “I’m telling people to prepare.” Goldberg countered, “You think people aren’t prepared? They are prepared.”
Navarro insisted people can’t relax with uncertainty looming. “They can’t be relaxing and enjoying Christmas when winter is coming.” Goldberg retorted, “I’m sorry, Winter is here. Winter has been with us.”
The clash highlighted their differing views. Goldberg emphasized waiting and reacting to what actually happens. Navarro argued that many don’t have that luxury.
“I’m on his enemies list, and I’m not panicking,” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin chimed in, urging calm. Goldberg agreed, saying, “We don’t know what we’re panicking for.”
At the end, Goldberg warned against wasting energy on hypotheticals. “I need to see what he will do so that I know what I’m going to do,” she said. Navarro stood firm, saying, “I’m not going to wait and see.”
