Shoppers can snag up to 80% off at Express as nearly 100 stores prepare to close.
A customer shared a peek inside one store's closing sales, showing locations nationwide winding down.
On 5th Avenue, everything from workwear to hoodies was marked down.
Accessories like crossbody bags and various footwear were also on sale.
Customers were warned that no returns or exchanges would be accepted. They'd have to go to Express' Astoria, Queens Center Mall, Bay Plaza, or Newport Mall for returns.
New York City Express stores are offering up to 80% off all merchandise.
"The hottest new club in NYC is the Express closing down sale in Times Square," joked one social media user.
"$8 pants! Store fixtures! 80% off shoes! An escalator that doesn’t work! It has everything."
Express reported nearly $1.2 billion in debts and $1.3 billion in assets in its Chapter 11 filing. The filing was in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, said TV news outlet WPIX.
"Over the past several years, the Debtors have faced a challenging commercial environment," read the statement.
"Major players across industries are experiencing challenges with elevated interest rates and decreased consumer expenditure."
In April 2024, the company named Mark Still as its new CFO. He had been serving as interim CFO since November 2023.
Founded in 1980, the Ohio-based retailer is the parent company of Bonobos and UpWest.
Express targets young adults in their 20s and 30s, offering fashionable, affordable clothing.
One user on X remembered Express as having "ugly 40-something-woman-clothes."
"When they began the rebrand, they told employees to 'start reading fashion magazines,'" the user added.
Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData, told Retail Dive, “Very little about the Express proposition stands out."
“The assortment is bland, styles are mediocre, and prices are somewhat too expensive for the type of products offered,” he continued.
Express has struggled to maintain foot traffic since closing 91 stores in 2020.

Express operates about 530 Express, Express Edit, and Express Factory Outlet stores in the US and Puerto Rico.
Despite the decline in popularity, shoppers still flock to the closing sales.
"All I wanted was to get a pair of Gap jeans, but here comes Express with a funky store closing sale," tweeted one X user.
Express hasn't commented on when its New York locations will close for good.
