Punishment Handed Down to College Football Player Who Committed Despicable Act in the Middle of the Field

Louisiana Tech's linebacker, Brevin Randle, has been suspended indefinitely following an incident where he stepped on the back of UTEP offensive lineman Steven Hubbard's neck during a game on Friday night. Although Randle wasn't penalized during the match, the event was captured on camera, leading to significant backlash on social media.

"Coach [Sonny] Cumbie and I met with Brevin Randle today and informed him that he has been suspended indefinitely as a result of the incident during last night's game versus UTEP," Louisiana Tech athletics director Eric Wood said in a statement Saturday via ESPN. "In speaking with Brevin, he acknowledges that his action was wrong and understands the consequence of that action.

"Our University, athletic department, and football program believe in culture, class, and competitive excellence and in no way was that displayed in that moment."

After the game, UTEP's coach Dana Dimel indicated the officials might have missed the incident.

"The referee, who I really admire, came over at halftime and very gentlemanly said that he missed it," shared Dimel, as reported by the El Paso Times. "That's part of the game. [The official] was a class act. I really appreciated that."

Randle is currently in his final year at Louisiana Tech, recording 46 total tackles and two sacks this season.

In the match, Louisiana Tech clinched a 24-10 victory, highlighted by a 67-yard punt return touchdown from Smoke Harris. Tyre Shelton initiated the scoring with a 1-yard ground touchdown, which was made possible due to an 85-yard reception by Cyrus Allen. Bulldogs' quarterback Jack Turner completed 9 out of 20 passes, including one for a touchdown.
