Pro-Life Group Demands ABC Debate Moderator Address Incorrect Abortion Claim

A major pro-life group is upset with ABC News over how it handled the presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Trump.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America sent a letter to ABC News, calling for a correction on how the debate was moderated. They addressed it to ABC News president Almin Karamehmedovic and moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis.

During the debate, Trump mentioned controversial comments made by former Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam in 2019, and Davis quickly fact-checked him. Northam’s comments were about late-term abortions, suggesting a discussion would follow if a baby was born alive.

Trump’s reference was swiftly rebuffed by Davis, who said no state allows the killing of a baby after birth. Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America disagreed and said Davis's statement was wrong.

The pro-life group claimed that babies born after failed abortions are sometimes left without medical care. They asked ABC News to correct the record and meet with abortion survivors.

They backed up their claims with examples and statistics, including CDC data showing that 143 babies died after being born alive following failed abortions between 2003 and 2014.

Additionally, they pointed to cases in Minnesota and noted that both Harris and Walz have opposed protections for babies born after failed abortions. The pro-life group is seeking an in-person meeting with ABC leaders.

Fact-checks after the debate disagreed with Trump’s remarks, noting that infanticide is illegal in all states. Harris, when asked about abortion restrictions, reiterated her support for reinstating Roe v. Wade protections.
