Poll Shows Mamdani Holding Massive Lead Over Cuomo

New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is holding a massive lead in the final stretch of the race to replace outgoing Mayor Eric Adams.

A new Emerson College Polling/PIX11/The Hill survey shows Mamdani ahead by 25 points over former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The poll, released Thursday, puts Mamdani at 50%, Cuomo at 25%, and Republican Curtis Sliwa at 21%. Another 4% are still undecided.

When undecideds are factored in, Mamdani’s support rises slightly to 51%, while Cuomo holds at 26% and Sliwa stays at 21%.

It’s a clear surge for Mamdani, who’s widened his margin since September, when he led Cuomo by 15 points. Meanwhile, Sliwa has doubled his support since Adams was still in the race, climbing from 10% to 21%. Cuomo has slipped slightly from 28% to 25%.

“Mamdani appears to have built a coalition across key demographics, increasing his margin among Black voters since last month, from 50% to 71%, whereas Cuomo dropped ten points among Black voters since September,” said Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling.

“Mamdani continues to have a base of young voters; 69% of voters under 50 support him, whereas 37% of voters over 50 support Mamdani, while 31% support Cuomo and 28% Sliwa,” he added.

The polling reflects a clear trend: Mamdani’s dominance in the mayoral race. After defeating Cuomo in June’s Democratic primary, the socialist state assemblyman is now expected to win Tuesday’s election easily, despite a last-minute push by moderates and Republicans to rally around Cuomo.

The survey was conducted Oct. 25–27 among 640 likely or already-voting New Yorkers, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.
