Several police departments are advising iPhone users to exercise caution after a recent software update.
The Middletown Division of Police in Ohio shared a cautionary message on Facebook for parents concerning the "NameDrop" feature in the latest iOS 17 update.
This function enables users to swiftly exchange their contact details with another iPhone or Apple Watch simply by bringing the devices in close proximity.
Once the devices are connected, you have the option to either share your information or obtain the other person's details. Additionally, you can abort the transfer by locking your phone or distancing the devices from each other before the completion of the process, as per Apple's guidelines.
Additionally, the company mentioned on its website that the NameDrop feature is exclusively designed for transmitting new information, and cannot be used to update existing contacts in your phone.
“PARENTS: Don’t forget to change these settings on your child’s phone to help keep them safe,” the Middletown Division of Police shared in a Facebook post.
To disable the feature, navigate to "Settings," select "General," and then choose "AirDrop." From there, switch the "'Bringing Devices Together" option to the off position.
