The fast food wars got a new player on Monday. Sonic Drive-In launched a value menu with entrées, snacks, and desserts.
Each item on the "Fun.99 Menu" is priced at $1.99, excluding tax.
Customers can enjoy a quarter-pound double cheeseburger, Chili Cheese Coney hot dog, small tater tots, and 16-ounce shakes. Sonic announced this in a news release.
The menu also features Bacon Ranch Queso Wraps and Southwest Crunch Queso Wraps. It's the first time Sonic has offered these wraps.
Sonic CMO Ryan Dickerson said they "wanted to do something different" by focusing on variety with the $1.99 menu.
"Now more than ever, consumers are focused on affordable food options, but they shouldn’t have to settle for the same old, tired discounts or boring meals," he said. "Many restaurant brands are touting value meals and discounts, and you see a lot of recycled ideas with limited options."
Sonic has over 3,500 locations in 48 states.
Recently, value meal deals have popped up at Burger King, McDonald’s, and Taco Bell. These deals are for a limited time, with prices ranging from $5 to $7.
Sonic's "Fun.99 Menu" will be available "all day, every day" at over 3,500 restaurants.
Fast-food customers are feeling financial pressure.
"It is clear that broad-based consumer pressures persist around the world," McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski said in April. "Consumers continue to be even more discriminating with every dollar that they spend as they faced elevated prices in their day to day spending, which is putting pressure on the QSR industry."
