President Trump issued a strong warning Monday. If China doesn’t pull back its new 34% tariffs, he says the U.S. will strike back—with a 50% hike.
These new Chinese tariffs were announced after Trump’s recent “Liberation Day” tariff push. The back-and-forth is heating up fast.
“China issued Retaliatory Tariffs of 34%, on top of their already record setting Tariffs, Non-Monetary Tariffs, Illegal Subsidization of companies, and massive long term Currency Manipulation,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He warned any country that retaliates will face “substantially higher Tariffs.”
Trump didn’t stop there. “If China does not withdraw its 34% increase above their already long term trading abuses by tomorrow, April 8th, 2025, the United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%, effective April 9th,” he added. Talks with China? Canceled. Other nations? Welcome to the negotiation table.
He slammed China as the worst offender. “Biggest abuser of them all,” Trump said when talking about tariffs. He’s made this argument before—and isn’t backing down.
Trump says the economy is strong. “Oil prices are down, interest rates are down (the slow moving Fed should cut rates!), food prices are down, there is NO INFLATION,” he wrote. He claimed billions are rolling in each week from current tariffs.
Despite that, Trump wasn’t done targeting China. “China, whose markets are crashing, just raised its Tariffs by 34%... not acknowledging my warning,” he said. He blamed past U.S. leaders for letting China take advantage for decades.
He ended on a note about diplomacy. “Countries from all over the World are talking to us. Tough but fair parameters are being set.” The pressure is on—and Trump’s message is clear.
