Democrat Rep. James Clyburn confirmed the party line Sunday, agreeing with former first lady Michelle Obama’s condescending claim that America is simply “not ready” for a woman president. The comments are a clear attempt to blame the electorate—specifically American men—for the recent election loss instead of failed liberal policies.
Clyburn went on NBC's "Meet the Press" to back up Obama’s claims. He stated, “If you look at the history, we demonstrated that we were not ready." He then warned against taking steps backward, claiming that is "what we are doing in these elections."
Obama originally used former Vice President Kamala Harris’ election loss as proof the country lacked the maturity to be led by a woman. She declared, “As we saw in this past election, sadly, we ain’t ready.”
The former first lady dismissed the idea of her running, using a hostile tone toward the American people. She said, “That’s why I’m like, don’t even look at me about running, because you all are lying. You’re not ready for a woman. You are not.”
Obama then pinned the blame squarely on American men. She said, “there’s still, sadly, a lot of men who do not feel like they can be led by a woman, and we saw it.” This ultimate identity politics deflection is the Democrats' new excuse for defeat.
Despite agreeing that America is not ready, Clyburn still urged women not to give up on the "pursuit." He used a hopeful anecdote from his father, saying, "The darkest part of the night is that moment just before dawn." The Democrat leadership is signaling they will continue to push female candidates regardless of the public's policy concerns.
