The couple is now planning to head back to the U.S. after insisting they would stay abroad for the entire Trump presidency. Their panic-driven political stance couldn't survive the brutal British weather.
One unnamed source confirmed the ridiculous motivation, saying, “Ellen was adamant that she and Portia were going to stay in the U.K. while Trump was in the White House, but evidently she's changed her mind somewhat.” She is now telling friends they are returning to California sooner than later.
The superficial reasons for their return are already clear. “They miss the warm weather and their friends,” the insider said, adding, “Portia wants to act again.” Their political outrage quickly dissolved when faced with a cold, damp winter.
DeGeneres made it clear that her 2024 relocation was a dramatic political statement. At an event in July, she confirmed that reports linking their move to President Trump were accurate.
She told the audience they arrived in the U.K. right before the election. When Trump won, her friends flooded her phone with sad emojis, and DeGeneres said, “We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in.’ And we're like, ‘We're staying here.’”
DeGeneres also used the stage to fear-monger about LGBTQ rights. She said she feared moves to challenge same-sex marriage protections, warning, “The Baptist Church in America is trying to reverse gay marriage.”
She claimed, “Portia and I are already looking into it, and if they do that, we're going to get married here.” DeGeneres finished her dramatic speech by lamenting that society is still inconsistent and "not scary for people to be who they are."
