Lara Trump Leaves RNC Co-Chair Position, Fueling Speculation of Her Next Move

Lara Trump announced on X that she is stepping down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC). She said the RNC had three goals during her time, and all had been achieved.

Trump began her role as co-chair in March 2024. Speculation has grown about her next steps as her father-in-law, President-elect Donald Trump, prepares to return to the White House.

"With that big win, I kind of feel like my time is up," she said. "What I intended to do has been done."

Her short tenure was impactful. She helped Republicans reclaim the Senate and retain a slim House majority.

Rumors suggest she could replace Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who is expected to become the next Secretary of State.

Last month, Trump told Fox News' Sean Hannity that she "would love to serve the people of Florida" if asked to fill Rubio's seat.

On Sunday, she spoke with Howard Kurtz about the possibility. "It would be a true honor," she said. "We’ve all been residents of Florida for over three years, and understanding the American people has been part of our lives."

Maye Musk, Elon Musk's mother, supports her for the Senate seat. "The Senate is an old man’s club," she posted on X. "We need a smart, young, outspoken woman." Trump is 42.

Elon Musk echoed his mother’s praise, calling Lara Trump "genuinely great" in a response on X.

Sen. Lindsey Graham also endorsed her on "Hannity." He said he’d be "over-the-top excited" and that Republicans "could not do better … than Lara Trump."

Ultimately, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will make the final decision. DeSantis is rumored to be in line for a cabinet role, potentially replacing Pete Hegseth.

Meanwhile, Michael Whatley will stay on as RNC chairman.
