Rep. Ilhan Omar appeared on "CNN Newsroom" on Sunday to discuss the guilty verdict for former police officer Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd. She described the death as a "lynching," and the asked "how we move forward as a society" when so many Conservatives disagree with the verdict.
“[T]here has been, you know, so many people who have been spinning what happened to George Floyd and what the ultimate cause of his death was. We now know that it was murder,” Omar said. “And you know, we didn’t need to be told by the jury with that guilty verdict. Many of us saw that video and witnessed a lynching take place. You know, throughout the summer and up to the court hearing, we all thought it was eight minutes and 46 seconds, and we ultimately know that it was more than nine minutes. And I don’t really know how we move forward as a society where there is a particular segment that believes that that is a justifiable thing for a police officer to do and that they should not be held accountable.”
She added the there is a history of entertainment around "public lynchings" in the United States.
“It shouldn’t be that surprising that there are still segments in our society that believe it is justifiable for a black man to be lynched,” Omar said. “But it’s going to be important for us to confront that reality, to confront our past history, and to find ways to move forward as a society.”
I disagree with the Chauvin case verdict because it was mob rule, not justice. They decided his fate based solely on race and how afraid they were of the backlash if they found him innocent. Many experts and the evidence provided suggested that Floyd died due to the lethal doses of drugs in his system, not from Chauvin holding him on the ground.

Florida House Moves to Ban Abortions Based on Disability
Florida's House is moving to ban abortions based on disability. This means that doctors in the sunshine state will be banned from performing abortions if the woman getting the procedure is doing so because of a disability diagnosis of the baby.
If a doctor does perform an abortion based solely on physical or mental disability, then they will be guilty go a third degree felony, which is punishable up to five years in prison.
