Iconic Retail Chain Set to Close Their Full-Size Location

The last full-size Kmart in the continental U.S. is closing in October. After that, only one downsized store will remain.

Kmart once had around 2,300 stores in the 1990s. Now, the Bridgehampton, New York location will close on Oct. 20, according to an employee there.

A smaller Kmart in Miami will be the only one left in the U.S. Kmart, owned by Transformco, still has three stores in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Transformco did not respond to FOX Business for comment. However, a spokesperson for Kimco Realty, which owns the centers where the Kmarts are, confirmed the Bridgehampton store's closure.

The Bridgehampton Kmart has been open for 25 years, according to reports.

Kmart's first discount store opened in 1962 in Garden City, Michigan, per Transformco’s website. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2002 and merged with Sears. It filed for bankruptcy again in 2018.

The Miami location, at Kendale Lakes Plaza, remains. However, it’s much smaller now, as most of the space was leased to At Home.

A Kimco Realty leasing representative said Kmart has a "long-term lease" at the Miami location.
