Tom Arnold made big lifestyle changes to drop 80 pounds and keep it off — all without Ozempic.
In January 2022, after a ministroke, Arnold decided to focus on his health. The 65-year-old actor teamed up with fitness coach Charles D'Angelo, whom he met at a charity event hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
With D'Angelo's help, Arnold went from 285 pounds to 205 pounds. Over the past two and a half years, he's maintained his weight.
During that time, Ozempic, a diabetes drug used off-label for weight loss, became popular in Hollywood.
Arnold told Fox News that he'd never considered Ozempic because he hadn't heard of it when he began his journey. "I tried every diet," he admitted.
He recalled using Fen-Phen with Roseanne, Oprah, and John Goodman in 1992. "We all lost 100 pounds, but then people started dying from it. They pulled it off the market. We were like, 'Damn, that was good stuff.'"
Arnold said, "I’m sober, so I’m careful with what I take. But Ozempic seems great." He added, "Whatever helps people get healthy is fine by me."
For Arnold, the cardio workouts have been key for his mental health and sobriety. He’s been sober for seven years.
"I wake up overwhelmed," he shared. "But I do the one thing I don't want to do. I get on the elliptical or make that tough call."
D'Angelo noted that Arnold's dedication to daily exercise, even while working or traveling, was essential. He explained that having a structured routine is crucial for keeping weight off.
The coach weighed in on weight-loss drugs, saying, "Pills can help with things like headaches, but they aren't the solution for long-term weight loss."
