Gavin Newsom's Office Responds After Olympic Legend Speaks Out On Alleged California Fraud

Olympic bobsled gold medalist Kaillie Humphries is speaking out against California Governor Gavin Newsom following a controversial social media response to fraud allegations in the state. The friction began after Newsom’s press office used an AI-generated image to mock an independent journalist investigating financial misconduct. Humphries, a San Diego resident and legal immigrant, argued that such apathy from leadership is unacceptable with the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics approaching.

"As a California resident, I’m deeply concerned about the reports of alleged financial fraud and Governor Newsom’s apathy to it," Humphries told Fox News. She noted that the Olympics are a multi-billion dollar event that requires substantial governmental support to run correctly. Humphries warned that without transparency, the 2028 Games could face the same bribery and corruption scandals that have tainted past host cities.

Newsom’s office dismissed the athlete’s concerns, stating they do not typically respond to commentary from individuals not directly involved in the matter. A spokesperson claimed that under the Governor’s leadership, California is leading the nation in preventing fraud and waste. However, critics point to the administration's use of snarky social media posts as evidence of a lack of serious accountability regarding taxpayer money.

"Our office does not typically respond to commentary from individuals who are not directly involved in or informed about the matter at hand," their statement to Fox News said. "Under Governor Newsom’s leadership, California is leading the nation in PREVENTING fraud, waste, and abuse — protecting billions of dollars intended for families, students, seniors, and communities," a spokesperson said, adding a link to a state website supposedly dedicated to stopping fraud.

Humphries has become a prominent voice for common sense policies since legalizing her status and moving from Team Canada to Team USA. She is an outspoken supporter of President Trump and his goals for protecting women’s sports and enforcing immigration law. Last week, she made history as the first U.S. Olympian to present the Order of Ikkos medal to a president during a White House event.

The bobsled legend acknowledged that she has faced significant backlash and name-calling from the left for her political beliefs. "I've had some people not agree with my opinions and make it very known," Humphries said regarding the emotional nature of modern politics. Despite the pressure, she maintains that leadership must address serious allegations to ensure taxpayer funds are properly accounted for.

As the 2026 midterms approach, the contrast between the American Manufacturing Renaissance and the bureaucratic challenges in California remains a major talking point. Supporters of the President’s agenda argue that athletes like Humphries represent the warrior spirit needed to fix a broken system. For now, the focus remains on whether California will clean up its act before the world arrives in 2028.
