Fox News Host Set to Take on New Role on Fox & Friends

After nearly 30 years of waking up at 3:30 a.m., "Fox & Friends" co-host Steve Doocy is finally hitting the snooze button. On Thursday, Doocy announced that he’s stepping back from the daily grind. But he’s not retiring — just shifting to a new role.

“Today is the last day I will host this show from the couch,” Doocy told viewers. “I’m not retiring, I’m not leaving the show. I’m still a host, but it’s time for a change.” He said the shift would let him spend more time with his growing family.

Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott, a longtime friend of Doocy’s, helped him shape his new schedule. “Suzanne gave me a great option — to keep working on this show, just not every day,” he explained. Doocy will now host three days a week and be based in Florida.

He also plans to report from across the country, including places that don’t often make headlines. “When my kids were growing up, I never had breakfast with them,” Doocy said. “But starting tomorrow, I’m going to have breakfast with my grandkids and my children whenever I can.”

Doocy joined Fox News at its launch in 1996 and became a co-host of “Fox & Friends” in 1998. He’s been a familiar face on American morning TV for over two decades. Now, he’s taking a well-earned breather — without stepping away completely.

President Donald Trump offered a personal message to Doocy during the broadcast. “I just want to congratulate you on your new and probably enhanced role,” Trump said. He thanked Doocy for his coverage and called him “a fantastic guy.”

“You’ve always treated me fairly, sometimes a little more fairly than other times, but that’s okay,” Trump joked. “You’ve been really stellar at what you do and at your craft.” The president also praised the entire “Fox & Friends” team.

“It’s the number one show in the business, and it’s going to stay that way for a long time to come,” Trump added. “And you were a big part of it. So thank you for all of your service, because truly, it was service.”

Doocy said he’ll take some time off before starting his new schedule. He’s looking forward to family time and a bit more daylight in his mornings. “It’s time to do something different — and still be part of something great,” he said.
