Actress Shannen Doherty recently disclosed in an interview that her cancer has progressed to her bones. Despite this challenging update, she emphasized her determination to continue battling the disease.
Doherty, 52, revealed the new to PEOPLE Magazine. “I don’t want to die,” she said. “I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better. I’m just not — I’m not done.”
Doherty shared a light-hearted analogy, likening her battle with the disease to playing a "Pac-Man video game." She mentioned that she and her medical team have established a "good regimen" for her treatment, and she is approaching her journey "day by day, month by month, year by year."
The actress has been fighting breast cancer since 2015. After receiving chemotherapy and a double mastectomy, she declared in 2017 that the cancer was in remission. However, in 2019, she disclosed that the cancer had recurred, now at Stage 4, and had metastasized.
“When you ask yourself, ‘Why me? Why did I get cancer?’ and then ‘Why did my cancer come back? Why am I stage 4?,’ that leads you to look for the bigger purpose in life,” she said, before adding, “It’s insane to me [that] we still don’t have a cure.”
Doherty has been transparent about her experiences, her concerns, and the treatments she has undergone, sharing much of her journey publicly through her Instagram account.
